The Flatmates were formed in 1985 in Bristol, UK, in the white heat of what has become known to historians as the ‘C86 movement’ or ‘The Scene In-Between’. Their simple aim was to make classic pop tunes which combine the cool and charm of The Ramones and The Ronettes. In the late 1980s they released five singles on guitarist Martin Whitehead’s Subway Organization label, all of which dented the UK indie charts of the day, two of them also reaching the hallowed ground of DJ John Peel’s annual listeners’ chart the Festive 50.

While contemporaries went on to find a degree of fame and fortune on major labels, The Flatmates stayed true to their DIY roots. They never record the classic album they knew was in them back then, although two collections of Flatmates material were released, Love and Death (1989) and Potpourri (Hits, Mixes and Demos ’85 – ’89 (2005).

In 2013 the band returned with a new line-up (including Swedish singer Lisa Bouvier), a new single (‘You Held My Heart’ on the Archdeacon Of Pop label), and a select run of UK gigs. This was followed in 2015 by a single on Italian label Astro Girl, featuring cover versions of songs by Prince and Cinerama, as well as a reissue of the Potpourri compilation, now available for the first time on (pink! double!) vinyl, issued by Cherry Red / Optic Nerve.

Since then they have continued to play live, including the Indie Daze all-dayer in London; The At The Edge Of The Sea festival in Brighton; The Indie Tracks festival in Derbyshire; Berlin Popfest; their first French tour; and also their first US tour, including a headline slot at NYC Popfest.

Live they have gone from strength to strength, a five-piece band with an onstage energy few can match, and while the classic tunes are still present and correct, they are matched by a clutch of potential new hits, material which the band have recorded for a new album, officially their debut, which will be released in 2018.

Formed in 2008, House of Light is an underground band based in London. With roots in new wave, 80s and psychedelic music, they have been compared to groups as varied as Joy Division, Nick Cave, Radiohead, the Doors and Sonic Youth.

All songs are written by J de Vries and Valentina Veil. The music is often described as dark and melodic. The lyrics tend to have a lyrical or post-romantic bent reminiscent of the optimism and of the 80s and the laments of the 90s.

In 2009, with the addition of Valentina Veil on vox and keyboards, the sound of the band became increasingly psychedelic. A second guitarist Diego Ferri (guitarist for Chinawoman) was also joined the group and brought size to the overall sound of the House of Light or HOL as they were also known to their fans.

In the same year their first album “Come Into My Night” came out through German and American labels with some positive acclaim amongst the underground press in Europe. The album, with songs of lamented loss of soul, and urban angst mixed a dark pop sensibility with some post-rock sounds and some electronic elements.

House of Light’s first album “Come Into My Night is now available in these record stores.

Having established themselves as one of the most exciting live bands on the Scottish music scene in 2016 (Nominated for Best Live Act at SAMA Awards 2016 / headline show at T in the Park’s TBreak stage) MIRACLE GLASS COMPANY topped it off with the release of their Owen Morris-produced debut album ‘MGC 1’on VoxBox Records in October. Fusing psychedelic rock’n’roll with pop sensibilities, blistering musicianship and three unique voices, The List said the album ‘conjures up memories of the Lennon/McCartney partnership at the peak of their powers’ and Scottish music guru Jim Gellatly named it as his album of the year, describing it as ‘timeless, a future classic’.

WILLIAM DOUGLAS (vocals / bass), ANDY DUNCAN (vocals / drums) and AUSTEN GEORGE (vocals / guitar) came together in early 2014 with two aims: (1) create a sound that would both capture the power, energy and melody of the rock’n’roll music they loved, and appeal to a modern audience; and (2) push the boundaries of what a three-piece band can do, with each member singing lead vocals, harmonising, and playing their instrument to the highest level whilst delivering high energy performances and connecting with audiences through their passion and commitment. With both their live show and debut album recognised as being at the pinnacle of new music across their native Scotland in 2016 the band are ready to kick on and build on their already growing UK fanbase in 2017.

From supernaturally beautiful songs to seismic mind bending jams, Miracle Glass Company represent all that’s best about cosmic rock n’ roll.
